The Style of Salsa Music

In salsa music, the general meter used is a 4/4 time signature. Many musicians play a recurring rhythmic accompaniment, which are normally in groups of eight beats. The melodic phrase usually spans 8 to 16 beats and the whole stanza spanning 32 beats.
          The foundation of salsa music is the clave rhythm and the most common clave system is called the son clave, which is eight beats long and can be played either in a 2-3 style or a 3-2 style. When other instruments are playing while the clave is playing, the clave still acts as a rhythm ground for the instrumentalists
